Serial Aliquots

The intricate drawings featured in this exhibition by Michael Geddis and Joanne Proctor emerged from a three-year collaboration. Both artists were inspired by natural patterns including microscopic biological structures.

They investigated the process of drawing, focusing particularly on the role of memory and intuition. Initially, photographs were swopped prompting responsive drawings.  This involved intuitive abstraction of shapes observed in the photographs and incorporation of remembered forms. Images of these drawings were then exchanged generating further responsive drawings. This creative process was repeated sequentially several times.

The title Serial Aliquots borrows from the scientific term referring to the removal and sequential modification of portions from a whole.
