The areas of extensive countryside around the west of Ireland are often referred to as hinterlands. The term comes from German and loosely translates to "the land behind". The use of the term tells of our perception of the natural landscape as remote, yet still connected to us.

This exhibition of drawings by Galway based artist Phill Foley investigates this connection of the land to our sense of identity.  It documents the often dramatic landscapes of the west coast and questions the changing perceptions of them as our relation to the land changes.
