FNL: The Knotty Pine String Band

The Knotty Pine String Band have been playing together since 1993 and have been bringing bluegrass and American roots music to audiences all across Ireland, Europe and USA.

The instrumental line up in the band consists of  Seamus Mc Gurgan on Banjo, Dobro, Tony Hutchinson  acoustic guitar,vocals, Aidan Mc Gale bass,vocals and Declan O’Kane, fiddle ,mandolin and vocals. Vocal harmonies are an integral part of the band and these are prominent in practically every song. The Knotty Pine String band also have a strong country roots influence with songs from the likes of John Prine, Kristofferson, Steve Goodman and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and also like to take popular songs and give them a bluegrass twist

Since 1994 the band recorded five albums and have appeared at the European Bluegrass Congress in Holland, the award winning Bluegrass in the park at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh and for the past 18 years have appeared at the International Bluegrass festival in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford.

A busy 2016 had the band touring both Spain and Portugal and appearing at many theatres throughout Ireland with the show Bluegrass comes to Town The band’s most recent CD was called “Twenty years a Growin” produced as a celebration of 20 years of making music are currently recording a new CD which should be released in 2018.
